Hugh Jackman has opened up about a surreal musical moment he will never forget.

In a new confessional with PEOPLE Magazine, the actor reflected on the once-in-a-lifetime experience, which took place ahead of the premiere of his latest film, Song Sung Blue.

Recalling the unexpected invite, Jackman admitted there was only one possible response when the music icon suggested belting out karaoke tunes.

“So when you go to Neil’s place for dinner, and he says, ‘Do you wanna do karaoke?’ 100% you say yes,” Jackman joked.

The Wolverine star also revealed that moments like these come with a couple of firm rules, especially when the guest list includes a pop culture legend.

“You make sure your phone is charged and someone is videoing that,” he added.

In the movie, Song Sung Blue, the 57-year-old actor stars as Mike Sardina, one half of the Neil Diamond tribute duo Lightning & Thunder. This role clearly deepened Hugh’s connection to the singer’s music.

Earlier this month, Jackman and his co-star surprised fans with an impromptu appearance at Old Mates Pub in New York City shortly after attending the 2025 Gotham Awards.

The duo had the crowd dancing and singing along as they performed three of Diamond’s most beloved hits, Forever in Blue Jeans, Crunchy Granola Suite and Sweet Caroline

At one point, Jackman even climbed onto the bar counter, rallying the crowd and urging everyone to “raise the roof.”
