Travis Kelce’s proposal to Taylor Swift didn’t go exactly as planned as initially he had something big in mind but went in a completely different direction.
The NFL star’s father, Ed Kelce, offered an inside scoop on his son’s engagement plans to the Cruel Summer chart-topper.
According to him, the Kansas City Chiefs tight end originally planned to delay his proposal to Swift, 35, in order to create a grand, special event.
He wanted to wait until the following week to pull off something memorable. However, Ed shared that he repeatedly encouraged his son not to overthink it, reminding him that the moment would be special no matter where it happened .
“He was going to put her off ’til this week, to, you know, make some grand thing, to make it a big special event,” Ed told News 5 Cleveland. “And I told him repeatedly, you know, you could do it on the side of the road, do it any place that makes it a special event … when you get down on one knee and ask her to marry you.”
In the end, Travis, 35, took his father’s advice and proposed the Grammy winning musician at home about two weeks prior to the public announcement.
The proud father shared that the Super Bowl champion proposed about two weeks ago at home.
Ed, 74, added that Taylor’s father, Scott Swift, offered similar sentiments.
Travis’ dad shared details after the newly engaged couple announced the delightful news on Tuesday, August 26.
In a joint Instagram post featuring Travis on one knee, they captioned the photo, writing, “Your English teacher and your gym teacher are getting married [fire cracker emoji].”
