An angry elephant attacked a group of tourists in Zambia, killing an eighty-year-old American woman, and injuring four others as the giant animal chased the vehicle for over half a mile in the Kafue National Park before the vehicle was flipped by the mammal, reported Daily Mail.

The giant animal was catching up with a 25-km-travelling truck in which five tourists were on a game drive.

The video released by the witnesses showed tourists calling “oh my goodness” as the 5-ton-behemoth kept speeding with the truck with another one calling out desperately moments before it collided with the elephant.

The ranger stops abruptly and comes under attack by the elephant. The driver calls out “hey hey hey hey hey” realising that they are under the wrath of the giant who was standing 10 feet tall.

Authorities have not released the identities of the tourists.

It is being anticipated that the tourists were US citizens and were staying at the Lufupa River Camp in the Park which — the oldest and second largest in the world.

In a confirmation, Wilderness CEO Keith Vincent said that one American guest aged 80 was killed, while another was seriously injured and four other tourists had minor injuries.

Vincent also said: “At around 09h30 on Saturday the six guests were on the game drive when the vehicle was unexpectedly charged by the bull elephant.”

“Our guides are all extremely well trained and experienced but sadly the terrain and vegetation was such that the guide’s route became blocked.”

Authorities have started an investigation into the matter.
